Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Walking Miracle

Vanessa Bell Armstrong will not be denied. "Walking Miracle" firmly lays to rest any thought of her retreat from the stage, and that goes for the stage of real life too.

The passionately rendered “Walking Miracle” makes it very clear: Vanessa Bell Armstrong won’t let anything stop her. Not the health issues of her children, not marital struggles, and not those who tried to count her out. “I am ready to tell everyone how good God has been to me,” explains Armstrong. Themes of encouragement and hope run strong through the ten superbly-produced tracks of “Walking Miracle.”

Producer Rodney Jerkins introduces Armstrong and the album’s theme with the opening title track, the straightforward arrangements highlighting Scripture truths and Armstrong’s warm vocals over simple keys. The song was given to Armstrong during a time of praying over her son’s MS diagnosis, and it sets the tone perfectly for this inspiring project. “Seasons” reminds us that God has a plan for our lives, and features the guest vocals of J Moss. Labelmate Smokie Norful produced the album’s first single, “So Good To Me,” a standout track that melds together Armstrong’s rich traditional powers and her ease with a contemporary edge. “So Good To Me” is a testimony song, her sizzling vocals coming across like melted butter, displaying both her range and her passion. The warmly encouraging “Wait” follows, noteworthy for its old school energy and bounce.

But Armstrong switches gears effortlessly for the contemporary “Fall in Love Again,” her earthy vocals smooth as silk over the Freddie Jerkins production. It’s Freddie behind the energetic “Till the Victory is Won” too, another standout track. This song is notable not just for its tight beats but for its spiritual wisdom, reminding us that we’re fully equipped for the battle we all face.

The remaining tracks continue to encourage us to believe God, revealing more of Armstrong’s personal life on the quiet “It’s Over Now” and giving her a chance to stretch out on the string-rich “Just Hold On.” Don’t let anybody try to tell you Vanessa Bell Armstrong’s day has past. She’s as relevant as ever on “Walking Miracle,” hitting the streets on February 20th.
